Box

I just started a subscription to BirchBox.  Why?  I want to get cool stuff in adorable sample sizes that don't last annoyingly forever like normally-sized products do.

A salon I worked at did a drive for used products togive to womem in need.  I couldn't believe how many women donated many barely-used luxury hair-care products.

They did it because new things are exciting for about two seconds and then we are SO over them.  They don't work, we are sick of how they smell, or we found so ething else we want to try now.

So, all I really want is sample sizes.  I also want surprises to add to my makeup kit and my facial box.

Side note: my facial box is what I show up to your house carrying when I plan to give you a facial.  It is filled with goodies for different skin types.

Finally, I want to casually review the products for you that I recieve each month in my decorative and practical box.

My first box came a few days ago so this should start soon.  It came with a dry shampoo that texturized my super-limp hair in a time-crunch one morning.  I'll get back to you with the name and other experiences with it.

Be excited - these are exciting times!

Art

The other night I spoke with a fellow makeup artist about foundation palettes.  I was excited about mine.  I still am  I feel they have brought my applications to a whole new level!  But she doesn't care as much for them.  She actually carries bottles upon bottles of foundation around with her to get the results she desires.

Her advantage is that she has used both techniques and I haven't so I feel like Im obligated to follow her lead and go out, choose a cosmetics line, and buy every single one of their foundations.

But the reality is, makeup artistry is just that: an art.  No two artists do anything exactly the same way!

Because of that belief and revelation, I for once I might not hop on Amazon and fancifully add way too many things to my cart.  I will keep you posted.

Foundation palettes are my favorite because they look tiny and professional, travel well, carry a ton of product that covers beautifully, and make mixing and matching a breeze.  When I first felt the texture of Graftobian foundations, what I got (creamy, fluid yet opaque) was far different from what I expected (chalky and difficult to pull).  I'm in love and that's what counts.

The Curse

The curse of makeup artistry is always wanting new products.  Where do we put them?  We don't know.  There are condensation methods, of course, like clear compartmentalized vuesets for condensing lipsticks and magnetic z-palettes for condensing pressed powders.  But I now have five z-palettes and have ordered three more.  Its true.  AND I have an online shopping cart full of items at ulta.com.  I'm just waiting for my paycheck to come in to pull the trigger.  I also work right by one of those fancy department stores that sells high-end makeup at the entrance.   You can't walk through to the escalator without passing Nars. And I want that famous blush shade, Nars Orgasm.  How can it not be famous with a name like that, let alone the universally flattering warm pink color (with gold hilights)?

I am revisiting this post about a week after having written the first paragraph.  My progress: I did not wait for my paycheck to buy the undereye primer, graftobian color-correctors and nars blush.  I pulled the trigger long bevore then and gleefully (yet somewhat guiltily) arrived home each day to new amazon packages (for me!) On the doorstep.

Will it never end?
